Sangrur (Punjab) May 1, 2026” Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday dedicated an ultra-modern Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kauharia village in Sangrur, significantly boosting rural healthcare infrastructure in the region.
The newly inaugurated 30-bed facility, built at a cost of ₹13.23 crore, is set to benefit around 35,000 residents across 85 villages, including a local population of about 4,100 people.
The Chief Minister described the hospital as a long-awaited development, noting that residents are receiving their first such facility nearly 80 years after Independence.
Equipped with round-the-clock emergency services, the CHC includes four OPDs, emergency block, labour rooms, operation theatres, diagnostic services such as X-ray and laboratory, and dedicated wards. The centre will also provide specialised care for children and dental treatment, along with free medicines and diagnostic tests.
Highlighting accessibility, Mann said the facility will offer free treatment, including X-ray, ECG and blood tests, while cashless services will be available under the state’s health schemes. An OOAT centre has also been set up for de-addiction treatment.
Taking a dig at previous governments, the Chief Minister said earlier regimes neglected regions like Dirba, adding that his government is investing public funds into essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure in rural areas.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the project reflects the government’s efforts to uplift backward regions, while Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh highlighted the state’s commitment to universal healthcare, citing a ₹2,000 crore allocation for health insurance.
