Three-Day Workshop on Mental Health held at Meritorious School
Ferozepur, August 22, 2026: A three-day special workshop on mental health awareness was organised at Saragarhi Memorial Meritorious School, Hakam Singh Wala, Ferozepur, by the Child Welfare Council Punjab, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the school and the District Red Cross Society from August 18 to 20.
The workshop aimed at sensitising students about mental health issues, developing emotional intelligence, promoting positive thinking for a stress-free life and strengthening the spirit of mutual support among students.
The workshop was organised under the guidance of Dr. Satinder Singh, Principal-cum-Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary), with the support of School In-charge Sukirti Sharma. Counselling psychologists Sambhavi Negi and Anvi Bindra, along with theatre artist Kapil, specially attended the workshop from Chandigarh and interacted with students on various emotional and social challenges.
The experts engaged the students in a range of creative and participatory activities to help them understand, express and manage their emotions effectively. They stressed that mental health concerns should not be hidden and encouraged students to openly share their problems with parents, teachers, counsellors or psychologists whenever required.
The experts also highlighted the importance of creating a safe, supportive and sensitive environment for students to promote their mental and emotional well-being.
Dr. Satinder Singh said that being a residential school, students remained away from their parents and homes for extended periods. During adolescence, academic pressures, concerns about the future, relationships and other social and emotional challenges could sometimes lead to stress and mental pressure.
He said engaging students in meditation, reading books, walking, sports and other positive activities could prove highly beneficial in maintaining their mental well-being. He emphasised that alongside education, ensuring the mental and emotional health of students was also an important responsibility of the school.
He said the three-day workshop was organised with the objective of helping students better understand their emotions and challenges and encouraging them to seek help from the right person whenever necessary.
School In-charge Sukirti Sharma thanked the Child Welfare Council Punjab and the District Red Cross Society team for organising the programme. She said such awareness initiatives were highly important for the holistic development of students and expressed the desire to organise more useful and student-centric programmes at the school in future.
Sunil Sharma, Secretary, Red Cross Society, Sagar Kumar, members of the school staff and members of Ravi House were also present on the occasion.
