Bathinda, June 13:
As part of the Punjab Government’s Mission Clean Punjab campaign Municipal Commissioner Lovejit Kalsi carried out an early morning surprise inspection of cleanliness operations in various parts of Bathinda city on Friday.
During the inspection, the Commissioner visited key commercial and residential areas, including Dhobi Bazar, Hospital Bazar, Post Office Bazar, Sirki Bazar, Mall Road, Ajit Road, and Civil Lines, where sweeping and sanitation work was underway.
Expressing satisfaction over the efforts of sanitation workers, Kalsi commended the safai sewaks for their dedication in maintaining cleanliness across public spaces. She emphasized that sanitation staff play a crucial role in keeping the city clean and healthy for residents.
Taking stock of civic infrastructure, the Commissioner directed officials to ensure that all sewer manhole covers are brought to the same level as adjoining roads to eliminate uneven surfaces and reduce the risk of accidents for motorists and pedestrians.
With the monsoon season approaching, she also instructed officials to undertake immediate desilting and cleaning of roadside gullies and drainage channels to prevent waterlogging and ensure smooth drainage during rainfall.
The Commissioner noted that sanitation workers not only collect household waste through door-to-door collection drives but also remove garbage from secondary collection points across the city. She appealed to residents to segregate household waste into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories, stating that proper segregation prevents food waste from mixing with plastic and other non-recyclable materials, thereby facilitating efficient solid waste management and treatment.
Highlighting the efforts of the Municipal Corporation’s sanitation workforce, Kalsi said that a dedicated team of safai sewaks works round the clock in shifts to maintain cleanliness standards throughout the city. She added that special night-sweeping operations are conducted after 9 p.m. in major markets and commercial areas to ensure that these locations are thoroughly cleaned and ready for business activities the following morning.
The Municipal Commissioner reiterated the administration’s commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic urban environment under the Mission Clean Punjab initiative and called upon citizens to actively support the cleanliness drive.
