PGIMER shines again; Ranked India’s 2nd Best Medical Institute in NIRF 2025 for 8th year running

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has retained 2nd rank in the Medical category of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025, announced by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, in the presence of Minister of State for Education Sukanto Majumdar and other dignitaries.
Congratulating the PGIMER fraternity, Director Prof. Vivek Lal said, “This recognition is not just an accolade but a reflection of the Institute’s unwavering commitment to patient care, medical education, and path-breaking research. I dedicate this achievement to the tireless efforts of our faculty, staff, and students, whose excellence has consistently kept PGIMER among the very best.” He also thanked Union Health & Family Welfare Minister and President of the Institute J.P. Nadda for his guidance and encouragement.
In the 10th edition of the NIRF rankings, PGIMER maintained its second position among India’s leading medical institutions, with AIIMS New Delhi ranked first, followed by CMC Vellore and NIMHANS at third and fourth positions respectively. Dean Academic Prof. R.K. Ratho received the award on behalf of the Institute in New Delhi.
Launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Education, NIRF evaluates institutions on Teaching, Learning and Resources; Research and Professional Practices; Graduation Outcomes; Outreach and Inclusivity; and Perception.
Sustaining the 2nd rank for eight consecutive years (2018–2025) underscores PGIMER’s enduring pursuit of academic and clinical excellence, strengthened by collaborative faculty effort and visionary leadership.
