Chandigarh, July 27, 2026: Punjab Congress president and Lok Sabha MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday launched a sharp attack on both the Centre and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, raising concerns over examination paper leaks, police action against sanitation workers and law and order in the state.
Reacting to the Centre’s move to amend laws relating to examination malpractices, Warring said the government had been forced to respond due to sustained protests by students and pressure from the opposition.
He questioned the effectiveness of the proposed legislation, alleging that it focuses on increasing punishment and penalties without outlining concrete measures to prevent paper leaks.
“The government should explain how this law will stop paper leaks. Merely increasing punishment and fines is not enough. Young people want accountability,” Warring said.
The Punjab Congress chief also demanded action against those responsible for examination paper leaks in Punjab, asking Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to fix responsibility and take strict action against those involved.
Referring to the recent protests by students, Warring questioned the reported use of pellet guns during demonstrations and sought an explanation from the Union Home Ministry regarding those responsible for the action.
Turning to the ongoing agitation by sanitation workers, Warring extended the Congress party’s support to the proposed Punjab bandh called by sanitation workers.
He criticised the alleged assault on sanitation workers during protests in Barnala and demanded strict action against the police officials responsible.
“The sanitation workers have been given the title of ‘Rabb De Bande’ (God’s people), yet they are working for just ₹12,000 a month and have been subjected to violence. We fully support their agitation. This struggle should continue until the police officials responsible are brought to justice,” he said.
Warring also promised that if the Congress returns to power in Punjab, sanitation workers would receive a minimum monthly salary of ₹50,000.
Speaking about the party’s political plans, the Punjab Congress president said preparations for the upcoming elections are underway and added that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi would campaign in Punjab during the election period.
