55% Voter Turnout Recorded by 3 PM in Local Body polls
Chandigarh, December 21, 2024: The ongoing local body elections in Punjab witnessed an average voter turnout of 55% by 3:00 PM, according to the State Election Commission. The polls are being held for five Municipal Corporations, 44 Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats across the state.
Polling, which began early in the morning, has seen varying levels of participation, with rural areas generally recording higher voter engagement compared to urban centers. With one hour remaining before polling closes at 4:00 PM, election officials remain hopeful that the turnout will see a further increase in the final hours.
