Chandigarh, July 8, 2025 –
Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday issued a sharp reminder to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, urging him to uphold his constitutional responsibility to safeguard the lives and property of the state’s citizens.
“You hold a popular mandate as the elected Chief Minister of Punjab, but with that comes the duty to ensure the safety and security of the people who placed their trust in you,” Warring said in a strongly worded statement.
Stressing that the Congress Party did not wish to politicize the matter, Warring emphasized that the ongoing deterioration of law and order could not be ignored. He pointed to a disturbing rise in targeted killings and gangster-linked extortion, saying it had created a climate of fear and instability across the state.
The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief also warned that the lawlessness is having a direct impact on the state’s economy. He highlighted that industrial confidence in Punjab is waning, with local investors increasingly preferring other states.
“In 2022, Punjab industrialists invested Rs 2,950 crore in Uttar Pradesh. In 2023, they signed MoUs worth Rs 9,000 crore with the same state. And just yesterday, Punjab’s industry promised Rs 15,000 crore of investment in Madhya Pradesh,” Warring said, calling it a wake-up call for the AAP-led state government.
Warring, who represents Ludhiana in the Lok Sabha, said he had received direct feedback from industrial stakeholders in the region, who expressed anxiety over the worsening law and order situation.
“The daylight murder of Sanjay Verma in Abohar is a chilling example. Such incidents are driving the industry away and damaging Punjab’s economic prospects,” he said.
He further criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government’s financial policies, stating that Punjab is already slipping into a debt trap due to “mismanagement and misplaced priorities.”
Warring urged the Chief Minister to take immediate corrective steps to restore law and order and regain the confidence of both the public and the business community.
