New Delhi/Chandigarh, June 6, 2026: Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Saturday met Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the national capital and thanked her government for introducing relief measures aimed at supporting families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Dhillon, who was accompanied by Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, discussed a range of issues concerning governance and public welfare. During the meeting, the Punjab BJP chief outlined his vision for a prosperous and inclusive Punjab, drawing inspiration from the legacy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

He said the Maharaja’s model of governance—based on justice, communal harmony and equal opportunity—remains relevant even today and should serve as a guiding framework for Punjab’s development. Dhillon also informed the Chief Minister that he has installed a portrait of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in his office as a symbol of his commitment to those ideals.
“The Punjab of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a land where prosperity, security and mutual respect prevailed. Our goal is to build a Punjab where every citizen enjoys dignity, equality and opportunity,” Dhillon said.
The BJP leader also welcomed the Delhi Government’s recent decision to ease eligibility norms for compassionate government jobs for dependents of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He particularly appreciated the relaxation in age and educational criteria, as well as the provision allowing next-generation family members to be considered for employment in cases where the primary dependent has crossed the age of 50.
Describing the move as an important step towards addressing the concerns of riot-affected families, Dhillon said the decision would help provide long-awaited support and recognition to those who have suffered the consequences of the 1984 violence.
The meeting forms part of Dhillon’s ongoing engagements with sen
