Ludhiana (Punjab), June 20, 2026: A shocking incident of alleged assault on a young couple has come to light from Ludhiana, where a man was seriously injured after a group of assailants reportedly attacked him near the Neelo Canal bridge and later dragged him out of the water before assaulting him again.
According to a complaint lodged with the Kum Kalan police, the incident occurred on Wednesday when Harmandeep Singh, a resident of Chhandra village, was travelling on a motorcycle with a female friend near the Neelo Canal bridge.
The complainant alleged that a group of men, who were allegedly waiting in the area, intercepted them and began attacking the pair. Fearing for her safety, the young woman reportedly jumped into the canal in an attempt to escape. Harmandeep followed her into the water to help and protect her.
However, the attackers allegedly continued to pursue them. According to the complaint, the accused pulled both individuals out of the canal and launched another assault on the youth using iron rods and sticks. Harmandeep sustained serious injuries to his head and other parts of his body and reportedly lost consciousness during the attack.
The victim further alleged that the accused later transported him in an auto-rickshaw and left him near City Centre. During the ordeal, his mother, Jaswinder Kaur, rushed to the location after learning about the incident. She allegedly faced misbehaviour and physical intimidation while trying to rescue her injured son.
Police said a case has been registered on the complaint of Harmandeep Singh against identified suspects Deepi, Sukkhi and Ravi, residents of Katani Kalan village, along with some unidentified individuals.
Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the attack and are working to establish the motive behind the incident. Further investigation is underway.
