Cabinet Minister Khuddian calls for collective efforts to make Punjab drug-free
Ferozepur, June 25, 2026: A special meeting under the campaign “War Against Drugs” was held at the District Administrative Complex, Ferozepur, under the chairmanship of Punjab Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian to review and strengthen efforts against drug abuse and trafficking.
The meeting was attended by district administration officials, police officers, district, constituency and block coordinators, volunteers, and representatives associated with the anti-drug campaign. MLA Ferozepur Urban, Ranbir Bhullar, MLA Zira Naresh Kataria, MLA Guruharsahai Fauja Singh Sarari, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma, SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, and other officials were present.
Addressing the gathering, Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian said that eliminating drugs requires the active participation of every section of society. He said the Punjab Government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and no person involved in the illegal trade would be spared.
He said that the fight against drugs is not the responsibility of any single department but a collective responsibility of society. He appealed to citizens to provide information about drug peddlers to the police, assuring that the identity of informers would be kept confidential.
The Minister said that strict action has already been taken against several major drug smugglers, who have been sent behind bars. He added that the government is taking effective steps to protect youth from drug abuse by promoting sports and constructing stadiums in villages so that young people can engage in healthy activities.
Khuddian also urged social organisations, NGOs, and community members to work in coordination with civil and police administration to make the anti-drug campaign successful. He directed the SSP to identify villages affected by drug abuse and take strict action against those involved in drug trafficking.
He further said that people who have fallen victim to drug addiction can be treated and should be encouraged to seek help from government de-addiction centres, where free treatment facilities are available.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Minister listened to the issues faced by village representatives, sarpanches and block coordinators and shared suggestions for making the campaign more effective.
ADC(D) Krishna Pal Rajput, SDM Ferozepur Abhishek Sharma, SDM Zira Suraj Kumar, Agriculture Officer Dr. Balwinder Singh, along with other civil and police officials, coordinators and volunteers were also present.
