Violence erupts during nomination process in Mamdot, four injured in firing
Mamdot/Ferozepur, June 25, 2026: Tension prevailed in Mamdot town of Ferozepur district on Thursday after a dispute between supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress during the nomination process for Nagar Panchayat elections turned violent.
According to reports, a heated argument between workers of both parties escalated into a physical clash, followed by stone pelting and chaos at the spot. A firing incident was also reported during the confrontation, in which fourwo youths were reportedly injured.
The injured were initially taken to the Civil Hospital, Mamdot, where they were provided first aid. Due to their critical condition, they were later referred to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot for further treatment.
Congress leader Ashu Bangar alleged that AAP leaders were indulging in “open hooliganism” and preventing Congress workers from filing their nomination papers. He alleged that the ruling party was attempting to influence the democratic process and claimed that the administration remained a silent spectator.
Meanwhile, senior police officials, along with a heavy police force, reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and brought the situation under control. Security arrangements have been strengthened in the area to maintain law and order.
Police officials said that an investigation has been initiated into the firing incident, the reasons behind the clash, and the identification of those involved. Evidence is being collected from the spot, and CCTV footage is also being examined.
The administration has assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty according to the law.
