Railway launches awareness campaign against unnecessary 'Alarm Chain Pulling'
Ferozepur, June 25, 2026: Ferozepur Rail Division of Indian Railways has launched an awareness campaign to educate passengers about the proper use of alarm chains provided in train coaches for emergency situations.
The railway authorities informed that every coach is equipped with an alarm chain facility to stop the train during genuine emergencies. However, pulling the alarm chain without a valid reason is a punishable offence under Section 141 of the Indian Railways Act.
On June 24, 2026, out of 16 reported incidents related to chain pulling, seven cases were registered against offenders. To prevent unnecessary chain pulling, transparent safety covers have been installed on alarm chain handles along with warning stickers to create awareness among passengers.
According to railway rules, misuse of the alarm chain can lead to a fine of up to ₹1,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both.
Railway is continuously educating passengers about the correct use of alarm chains and the legal consequences of their misuse. The division has appealed to all passengers to use the alarm chain only in genuine emergency situations.
Unnecessary chain pulling not only violates railway regulations but also affects the journey of thousands of passengers and disrupts the smooth operation of train services.
However, the railway remains committed to ensuring passenger safety, security and uninterrupted railway operations, said DRM.
