AAP secures top posts in Khanna Municipal Council; Jatinder Pathak elected President

Khanna (Punjab), July 1, 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured all three key positions in the Khanna Municipal Council, with Jatinder Pathak being elected President, Harish Gupta as Senior Vice President and Karamjit Sifti as Vice President.
Pathak, a five-time councillor, was elected President on the strength of the party’s majority in the Municipal Council. The elections for the three posts were held after the newly elected councillors took oath of office.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond was present during the oath-taking ceremony and the subsequent election process.
As per protocol, Senior Vice President Harish Gupta assumed office and began discharging his responsibilities on Wednesday. President-elect Jatinder Pathak will formally assume charge after the issuance of the government notification.
Speaking on the occasion, Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond said the state government and the Municipal Council would work together to accelerate the development of Khanna. He said strengthening civic infrastructure, improving basic amenities and expediting pending development projects would be among the administration’s priorities.
Sond said the Municipal Council’s clear majority would help speed up development works that had remained affected in the past.
The newly elected President Jatinder Pathak, Senior Vice President Harish Gupta and Vice President Karamjit Sifti thanked the party leadership and councillors for reposing faith in them. They pledged to discharge their responsibilities with honesty, transparency and dedication, adding that improving sanitation, drinking water supply, roads and other civic amenities would remain their key priorities.
