1989-Batch IFS Officer Vikram Misri Gets One-Year Extension as Foreign Secretary

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year extension in service for Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, a 1989-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.
According to an official order issued on July 1, 2026, Misri's tenure has been extended for one year beyond July 14, 2026, allowing him to continue as Foreign Secretary until July 14, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Vikram Misri has been serving as India's Foreign Secretary and has played a key role in steering the country's diplomatic engagements on several important bilateral and multilateral issues.
The decision ensures continuity in the leadership of the Ministry of External Affairs at a time when India continues to engage actively on major global strategic, diplomatic and geopolitical issues.
