SIR of electoral rolls to be conducted transparently; 936 polling booths proposed in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, July 7, 2026: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Ferozepur district will be carried out in a transparent and systematic manner in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India and the Punjab State Election Commission, said District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Deepeshikha Sharma during a meeting with representatives of recognised political parties regarding the rationalisation of polling booths.
DC said the Election Commission aims to ensure that every eligible citizen is enrolled in the electoral rolls while removing the names of ineligible voters. She informed that 903 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and 91 Sector Officers have been deployed for the district's 903 polling booths.
She said that as per the schedule issued by the Election Commission, the training of officials and printing of pre-filled enumeration forms have already been completed. From now until July 24, 2026, BLOs will visit every household to distribute and collect the pre-printed enumeration forms.
DC further informed that the draft electoral roll will be published on August 3, 2026, while claims and objections will be accepted from August 3 to September 2, 2026. All claims and objections will be disposed of by September 28, and the final electoral roll will be published on October 1, 2026.
She appealed to all recognised political parties to extend full cooperation to the administration during the Special Intensive Revision campaign. During the meeting, representatives of various political parties shared their suggestions and concerns, following which the DC directed the concerned officials to address the issues promptly.
She also informed that, in accordance with the Election Commission's guidelines, a separate polling booth will be created wherever the number of voters exceeds 1,200. Consequently, after the rationalisation exercise, the number of polling booths in the district is proposed to increase from 903 to 936.
Appealing to the residents of the district, the District Election Officer urged all eligible voters to cooperate fully with the BLOs during the door-to-door verification drive to ensure that every eligible citizen's name is included in the electoral rolls.
Among those present at the meeting were Additional Electoral Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Election Tehsildar Deepak Kumar, Election Kanungo Gagandeep Kaur, and representatives of recognised political parties.
