Chandigarh, July 7, 2026: Amid speculation over internal reshuffles and factionalism in the Punjab Congress, the party's Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday dismissed reports of discord, asserting that the Congress high command's decisions will remain unchanged and that the party is fully united ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
Baghel, who is on a two-day visit to Punjab, has been holding a series of meetings with leaders and office-bearers of various party wings to strengthen the organisation.
Addressing the media, Baghel rejected suggestions of dissatisfaction within the state unit.
"There is no resentment in the Congress party. There is no need to revisit the decisions taken by the high command, and the party will not change them. Everything in the Punjab Congress is absolutely fine," he said.
The Congress leader said he has been in regular touch with all senior leaders in Punjab, including former Chief Minister and MP Charanjit Singh Channi, MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and several other party leaders. He also met senior Congress leader Raj Kumar Verka on Tuesday morning and held discussions with office-bearers of the Punjab Youth Congress and Punjab Mahila Congress during the day.
Responding to questions about reports of displeasure within Charanjit Singh Channi's camp over the recent organisational decisions, Baghel said no leader was unhappy.
"I am in constant touch with Charanjit Singh Channi and will be meeting him personally very soon," he said.
Baghel also made it clear that the Congress high command's recent organisational decisions would remain in place. He reiterated that Amrinder Singh Raja Warring will continue as the Punjab Congress President, while Partap Singh Bajwa will remain the Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly.
Emphasising the party's electoral focus, Baghel said the Congress is united and working with a single objective.
"Our only goal is to form the Congress government in Punjab in the 2027 Assembly elections," he said.
