New Delhi, July 29, 2026: Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has triggered a fresh controversy after strongly criticising students involved in recent protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, describing the language used by some protesters as “completely unacceptable” and referring to sections of Gen Z as “Generation Gutter.”
Speaking to the media, Ranaut condemned alleged abusive remarks directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the protests. She said student movements should not be associated with obscene language or personal attacks.
“We have also participated in student protests, but what kind of students are these, and what kind of obscene language are they using?” Ranaut said, adding that such behaviour was unacceptable in society.
The BJP MP also shared a series of posts on Instagram Stories, where she criticised videos and reels emerging from the protests. Describing them as “puke-inducing,” she questioned the language and conduct of some protesters and said the content had left her disturbed.
Ranaut also targeted the use of cockroach imagery by the protesters, accusing them of promoting “filth, garbage and ugliness.” She said India was known for its cultural sophistication and criticised what she described as crude and offensive behaviour.
In another post, Ranaut made sharp remarks about young Hindu women participating in the protests, accusing some of attempting to imitate independent career women without accepting financial responsibility or accountability. She referred to them as “Generation Gutter” and alleged that some had little to contribute to society.
Her comments have drawn criticism and sparked a wider political and social media debate. The CJP dismissed Ranaut’s remarks, while opposition leaders also questioned her comments about the protesters.
The student agitation was called off on July 25 after the government accepted several demands, including assurances regarding legal cases and anti-paper leak legislation. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned during the course of the agitation.
