Chandigarh, August 29, 2026: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has urged people across the state to adopt an active lifestyle, healthier dietary habits and regular exercise to combat lifestyle-related diseases and safeguard the health of the younger generation.
Expressing concern over the growing prevalence of lifestyle-related health problems, Sandhwan said sedentary habits and stressful lifestyles were making people increasingly vulnerable to serious illnesses.
He advised people to make physical activity a part of their daily routine, recommending at least 30 minutes of yoga and 30 minutes of walking every day. He also encouraged families to set up basic home gyms, wherever possible, to maintain consistency in exercising.
Sandhwan stressed the importance of making healthier food choices and advised people to avoid market-bought sweets and fast food. He encouraged citizens to include more fruits and organic vegetables in their diets.
Highlighting the financial burden associated with serious illnesses and prolonged medical treatment, he said prevention through regular exercise, yoga and healthy eating could help people reduce the risk of lifestyle-related diseases.
The Speaker also appealed to parents to remain actively involved in their children’s lives to protect them from substance abuse. He said young people could sometimes fall into addiction through peer influence and warned that drug abuse could severely damage their physical and mental well-being.
Sandhwan urged parents to spend quality time with their children from an early age and educate them about the dangers of drugs. He said children should be taught to recognise that anyone encouraging them to consume drugs was putting their life and future at risk.
He called upon Punjabis to adopt healthier lifestyles, remain conscious of their physical and mental well-being and work collectively to protect the state’s youth from substance abuse.
