Breaking: Nitin Nabin launches ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ from Pathankot, plans 4,000-km statewide campaign

Pathankot (Punjab), September 18, 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched its ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ from Pathankot as part of a statewide campaign against drug abuse. BJP national president Nitin Nabin flagged off the first leg of the campaign from Ekta Sthal in Madhopur, Pathankot.
The BJP has planned four separate yatras that will collectively cover around 4,000 km and all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab. The campaign will continue through September 30, when the four routes are scheduled to converge in Jalandhar.
Addressing the gathering in Pathankot, Nabin said the BJP was committed to making Punjab drug-free and called for collective efforts to tackle the drug menace.
He also referred to the BJP-led government’s actions on issues including the abrogation of Article 370 and counter-terrorism, saying the party delivers on its commitments.
The BJP national president further said party workers would not be deterred by threats and reiterated the party’s resolve to fight the drug menace.
The remaining three yatras are scheduled to begin from Fatehgarh Sahib on September 19, Fazilka on September 20 and Talwandi Sabo on September 21.
The campaign is taking place ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. The BJP has described the initiative as an anti-drug campaign, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party has criticised it as a political exercise.
