Chandigarh, September 19, 2026: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appealed to people across Punjab to join the fight against drug abuse, describing the state’s drug problem as a serious crisis affecting families and young people.
In a video message posted on social media platform X, Chouhan said Punjab was going through a “serious drug crisis” and alleged that drugs had devastated families and damaged the lives and futures of many youngsters.
Chouhan is scheduled to visit Talwandi Sabo on September 21, where he will pay obeisance at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib and, along with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, flag off the fourth ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began its statewide ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ campaign on September 18 from Madhopur in Pathankot. Four yatras are being taken out from different parts of Punjab as part of the campaign, with the routes planned to cover all 117 Assembly constituencies before the programme concludes in Jalandhar on September 30.
In his message, Chouhan also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, alleging that it had failed to address the drug problem effectively. He called on Punjabis to participate in the BJP campaign and work towards making the state drug-free.
“Let us fight a decisive battle against drugs so that Punjab can be made drug-free,” Chouhan said in his appeal to the people of Punjab.
The BJP has said the campaign is aimed at mobilising public participation against drug abuse. The party’s four yatras are scheduled to begin from Pathankot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka and Talwandi Sabo between September 18 and 21.
