Baru Sahib (Himachal Pradesh), July 7, 2026: Two daughters of daily wage labourers have scripted an inspiring success story by scoring 97.6 per cent each in the Punjab Class X Board Examinations 2026, proving that financial hardship is no barrier to academic excellence when given the right opportunities.
Prabhleen Kaur, a student of Akal Academy Khamanon Khurd, and Harleen Kaur from Akal Academy Sowaddi Kalan, secured identical scores despite studying in different schools, under different teachers and appearing at different examination centres.
Coming from economically weaker families, both girls are daughters of daily wage labourers. Their fathers, Nirmal Singh and Gurpreet Singh, earn a living through daily labour, with no fixed income or job security. Like many families struggling to make ends meet, educating their daughters could have become an impossible dream.
However, the girls continued their education through The Kalgidhar Society's 'Educate to Save' initiative, under which their school fees, books and boarding expenses were sponsored by donors committed to ensuring that talented children are not deprived of education due to poverty.
Their remarkable achievement highlights the transformative impact of educational support for underprivileged children.
According to The Kalgidhar Society, more than 9,000 students are currently enrolled in its institutions. Of these, 2,261 students belong to labourers' families and receive free or subsidised education. This year, over 50 students from such backgrounds appeared in the Class X and XII board examinations, with 10 scoring above 90 per cent. Among them, Prabhleen Kaur and Harleen Kaur emerged as the highest achievers with 97.6 per cent marks each.
The Society said the success of the two students reflects the objective of the 'Educate to Save' campaign—to ensure that a child's future is determined by talent and hard work rather than financial circumstances.
