Minister Harpal Cheema inaugurates new road projects in Dirba, announces major infrastructure push

Dirba, October 9, 2025 : As part of the Punjab Government’s efforts to equip rural areas with urban-like facilities, Finance and Planning Minister Harpal Singh Cheema today inaugurated several roads connecting villages in the Dirba constituency and laid the foundation stone for a new road project.
The Minister inaugurated the Diwangarh Camper to Khetla road (3.20 km, constructed at a cost of ₹101.12 lakh) and the Diwangarh Camper to Laadbanjara Kalan via Kheri Naga road (6.60 km, constructed at a cost of ₹322.62 lakh). Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for the Safipur Kalan to Kheri Nagian Burj Tilla road (2.50 km, to be constructed at a cost of ₹102.40 lakh), which is expected to be completed within two months.
Addressing gatherings in the villages of Safipur Kalan, Khetla, and Diwangarh Camper, Minister Cheema highlighted that the Punjab Government is undertaking the construction of 19,000 kilometers of roads across the state.
Specifically, in the Dirba constituency, 60 kilometers of new roads will be built, and 85 kilometers of existing roads will be upgraded, with their width being increased from 10 feet to 18 feet.
The Minister also inspected ongoing development projects in Khetla village, including a dispensary being constructed at a cost of ₹34 lakh and a Panchayat Ghar being built at a cost of ₹23 lakh.
He emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is working tirelessly for the state’s development. The Dirba constituency is witnessing development on a massive scale, with no effort being spared to transform it into a model constituency.
Minister Cheema stated that the Punjab Government has successfully eliminated corruption from the system, leading to significant savings in public funds.
He noted that the state has overcome economic challenges and is now poised for record-breaking, all-round development in the coming years. He urged the people of Punjab to oversee development works in their areas, assuring that the government would provide the necessary funds.
The Minister added that these roads fulfill a long-standing demand of the local residents, making transportation easier and more efficient.
He also mentioned that grants worth lakhs of rupees have already been provided to the villages for various development projects.
Emphasizing his commitment to public service, he said that serving the people of Dirba, who gave him the opportunity to represent them, is his duty. He has been working tirelessly for the past three and a half years to meet their expectations.
Expressing deep sorrow over the untimely demise of renowned singer Rajvir Jawanda, Minister Cheema said that Punjab has lost a talented artist in the prime of his youth.
The event was attended by Pritam Singh Pitu, Chairman of the Improvement Trust, Sangrur, Tapinder Singh Sohi, OSD to the Finance Minister, and a large number of local residents.
