Ferozepur Police bust drug racket, seize 1.26 Lakh banned pills; one held
Ferozepur, October 9: Acting on a tip-off, Ferozepur police arrested one person and recovered a huge consignment of banned drugs, including 86,800 Pregabalin capsules and 40,000 Tramadol tablets, totalling 1,26,800 intoxicant pills, along with a Creta vehicle.
The accused, identified as Kunal Kapoor of Krishna Nagri, Ferozepur City, has been booked under Sections 223 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 188 and 336 of the IPC, informed Jatinder Singh, Incharge of City Police Station.
The recovery was made during patrolling near the Vegetable Market on Rakhri Road, where police received information about the illegal trade of narcotic drugs.
Just a week ago, police had unearthed a similar racket, seizing 8,18,300 intoxicant tablets and capsules along with ₹2.70 lakh in drug money and a cash counting machine from the residence and store of a local chemist agency. The seizure of a machine to tally illicit cash highlighted the large-scale nature of the operation.
DSP Sukhwinder Singh said, “The police will thoroughly investigate how such a huge quantity of drugs reached here, from where it was procured, and to whom it was being supplied. Whether the accused was running a medical store or supplying for other purposes, all angles will be probed, including forward and backward linkages and batch numbers. With this recovery of over 1.25 lakh tablets and capsules, it is clear that the supply chain is large, but we are committed to breaking it with strict action.”
SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu reiterated the district administration’s firm stand against narcotics, warning that tough action will be taken against all involved in the illegal trade. He further instructed the Health Department to launch intensive inspections of medical shops across the district to ensure strict adherence to drug control regulations.
