Ferozepur, October 9, 2025: Under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Dr Rajwinder Kaur, the Health Department, Ferozepur, observed
World Sight Day was observed across various health institutions of the Health Department in the district, and a special eye-checkup camp was organised at the Civil Hospital, along with a district-level awareness seminar, said Dr Rajwinder Kaur, Civil Surgeon.
Addressing the gathering, Eye Specialist Dr Asmita Bajaj emphasised that the main objective of observing World Sight Day is to spread awareness about eye care, prevention of eye diseases, and adopting precautions to maintain healthy vision. She advised including leafy green vegetables in the diet and practising regular eye exercises.
District Mass Media Officer Sanjeev Sharma highlighted that excessive use of computers, laptops, and mobile phones has increased strain on students’ eyes. To counter this, he recommended adopting the 20-20-20 formula—after every 20 minutes of screen use, take a 20-second break and look at an object 20 feet away. He added that lubricating eye drops may be used on medical advice when gadgets are used for prolonged hours.
Deputy Mass Media Officer Ankush Bhandari stressed that tobacco consumption harms both eyes and other organs, urging people to quit smoking. He also advised against reading in dim light, overuse of mobile phones, or improper viewing distance from TVs and computers. During the festive season, he cautioned that if fireworks cause any eye injury or irritation, people should immediately consult government health facilities instead of using medicines without a prescription.
Deputy Mass Media Officer Neha Bhandari further advised regular eye checkups, especially in cases of blurred vision. She said conditions like glaucoma and cataract can cause permanent vision loss, and timely medical consultation is essential.
On this occasion, Ophthalmic Officer Ashu Sharma, Staff Nurses Manjula, Shekhar, and Parminder Kumar were also present.
