Bathinda (Punjab), June 24, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday made a major announcement for village heads (Sarpanches) during a Sarpanch Milni programme held in Bathinda. The Chief Minister announced that all Sarpanches across Punjab will receive a monthly honorarium of ₹10,000 from August 15, 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Mann said the decision has been taken to recognize the crucial role played by Sarpanches in rural governance and development. He noted that Sarpanches serve as the first point of contact for villagers, oversee local development works, and help implement government schemes at the grassroots level.
The Chief Minister said the honorarium would benefit all elected Sarpanches in the state and would further strengthen the Panchayati Raj system by encouraging greater participation and accountability in village administration.
He emphasized that the state government remains committed to empowering local self-governance institutions and ensuring that rural development initiatives are effectively implemented. Mann also urged Sarpanches to continue working dedicatedly for the welfare and progress of their villages.
The announcement, made during the Bathinda Sarpanch Milni, is being seen as a significant step towards acknowledging the contribution of grassroots representatives and strengthening rural governance in Punjab.
