Chandigarh, June 24, 2026: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday urged Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to register an FIR against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Punjab Police officers allegedly involved in the preparation of fake forensic reports, claiming the reports were fabricated to counter the position of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and undermine its dignity.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, senior SAD leader Parambans Singh Romana said it was unfortunate that the case had so far been registered only against individuals associated with two laboratories, while senior Punjab Police officers who allegedly orchestrated the fabrication had not been booked.
Romana alleged that the laboratories engaged in the matter lacked the expertise and technical capability to conduct a detailed examination of the video in question. He claimed that the reports were ultimately edited and finalized by SP Jashandeep Singh and Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma. He demanded that criminal cases be registered against both officers.
Describing the issue as highly sensitive and linked to the sentiments of the Sikh community, the SAD leader called for a comprehensive investigation to determine who commissioned the reports and who financed their preparation. He also demanded the seizure of mobile phones, laptops, hard drives and other electronic devices belonging to the two officers and their staff. In addition, he sought an examination of their call records to establish who was directing the alleged operation.
Romana further alleged that public funds and government machinery were misused by the Aam Aadmi Party government to obtain forensic reports aimed at giving a clean chit to the Chief Minister. He claimed that the entire sequence of events had been exposed by Jaspreet Singh Jassi, who, according to him, was approached to procure the reports.
Citing Jassi’s alleged statement, Romana said he had described being pressured to facilitate the preparation of the reports and threatened with serious consequences, including harm to his family, if he failed to comply.
The SAD leader said the FIR in the case was registered after an inquiry conducted by the ACP (Crime-I), Gurugram, which, according to him, indicated that a prima facie case had been established. He further alleged that the laboratories involved were neither government-recognized nor equipped to conduct advanced facial recognition analysis.
According to Romana, the officers allegedly supplied an edited video and sought reports that would exonerate the Chief Minister despite knowing that reliable forensic conclusions could not be drawn from such material.
He also questioned Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema’s earlier defence of the Chief Minister on the basis of the disputed reports. Romana said Cheema had previously demanded an investigation into the matter but had now remained silent. He further claimed that AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia had also refrained from commenting on the issue.
The SAD leader reiterated his demand for an independent and impartial investigation to establish accountability in the case.
