Chandigarh, July 5, 2026:The Haryana Government has commenced preparations for the Census of India 2027, with the Population Enumeration Pre-Test scheduled to be conducted across selected sample areas in the state from July 6 to July 18, 2026.
Announcing the initiative, Dr. Sumita Misra, Financial Commissioner, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, and Haryana’s Nodal Officer for Census 2027, said the pilot exercise is aimed at ensuring a smooth, accurate and efficient population enumeration process ahead of the nationwide Census.
She said eligible residents in the notified sample areas were given the option of self-enumeration from July 1 to July 5, allowing them to voluntarily submit their census details through the prescribed digital platform before field verification begins.
Following the completion of the field exercise, a revisional round will be conducted on July 19 and 20 to verify, update and validate the information collected during the pre-test.
Dr. Misra said the pilot project will assess the effectiveness of the population enumeration methodology, digital systems, field operations and data collection mechanisms. The findings will help authorities refine operational procedures, address implementation challenges and strengthen the overall framework before the nationwide Census exercise.
She appealed to residents of the selected sample areas to actively participate and cooperate with enumerators, stressing that accurate Census data forms the basis of evidence-based policymaking, development planning and the effective implementation of welfare programmes.
The notification for the pre-test has been issued under Section 17A of the Census Act, 1948, read with Rule 6D of the Census Rules, 1990, authorising the conduct of the Population Enumeration Pre-Test in Haryana as part of preparations for Census 2027.
