Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), July 8, 2026: Public anger intensified in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu on Wednesday over the death of a woman at the Regional Hospital, Kullu, with hundreds of people staging protests and surrounding the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) to demand a fair and transparent investigation.
The protesters first gathered at Rath Ground in Dhalpur before marching to the SP's office, where they staged a sit-in outside the main gate and raised slogans against the administration. The demonstration later moved to the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office, where the protest continued.
The agitation was led by social activist Baldev Thakur, popularly known as Bunty Saraji, and witnessed participation from a large number of people from different parts of the district despite continuous rainfall.
The protesters demanded an impartial probe into the woman's death, strict action against those found responsible, and complete transparency in the investigation.
They warned that the agitation would continue until the guilty are held accountable. Protesters also called for a high-level inquiry and legal action against those found responsible after the investigation.
In view of the demonstrations, security was tightened outside both the SP and DC offices. Police and civil administration officials remained on high alert to ensure that law and order was maintained.
The administration appealed to the protesters to maintain peace while putting forward their demands.
What began as a protest over the woman's death has now grown into a major public agitation in Kullu, with authorities closely monitoring the situation as demonstrations continue.
