Chandigarh, July 18, 2026: In a major people-friendly initiative, the Punjab Government has decided to simplify the language used in property registration documents by replacing difficult Persian and Urdu terminology with easy-to-understand Punjabi words.
The Revenue and Rehabilitation Department (Stamp and Registration Branch) has issued orders to implement the change following the recommendations of a special committee constituted to make the language of property registration documents simpler and more accessible to the general public.
Based on the committee's recommendations, the government has approved the replacement of 35 old and complex words with commonly used Punjabi expressions in official registration documents. The move aims to make property-related paperwork easier for citizens to read, understand and execute without confusion.
The decision is being viewed as a significant step towards promoting the use of simple Punjabi in government documents while making public services more citizen-friendly and transparent.
