Sunam Udham Singh Wala (Punjab), July 31, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday paid tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh on his 87th martyrdom day, recalling the legendary freedom fighter’s courage, patriotism and supreme sacrifice for the nation.
The Chief Minister laid a wreath and paid floral tributes at the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial during a state-level commemorative function held at the local stadium in Sunam Udham Singh Wala.
Addressing the gathering, Mann said Shaheed Udham Singh’s sacrifice would continue to inspire generations to serve the nation selflessly. He said the country would always remain indebted to the iconic revolutionary for his unparalleled contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
Remembering Shaheed Udham Singh’s role in avenging the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the Chief Minister said he brought Michael O’Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, to justice at Caxton Hall in London. He described Udham Singh’s courage and determination as a defining chapter in India’s struggle against British rule.
Mann said countless freedom fighters had made supreme sacrifices to secure the country’s independence and create a society based on equality and welfare for the weaker sections. He added that the Punjab Government remained committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation.
The Chief Minister said the life and sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh would continue to motivate the youth to work for the country with dedication and selflessness.
Senior AAP leader and Punjab affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and several other dignitaries were present at the event.
