Bathinda (Punjab), August 3, 2026: An unusual moment unfolded during a Punjab Congress meeting in Bathinda when a party worker repeatedly raised slogans in support of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in the presence of senior state leaders.
The meeting was attended by Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and other senior party leaders. It was organised to discuss the party’s future political strategy and strengthen the organisation through interaction with workers and leaders.
During the proceedings, a young Congress worker began raising repeated slogans of “Channi Zindabad.” Raja Warring then invited the worker to the stage and asked him to call Channi.
The worker dialled Channi’s number from his mobile phone, but the call reportedly went unanswered. Warring then told the worker to take his phone number and contact him directly whenever he needed assistance.
In a light-hearted attempt to ease the situation, Warring handed the worker a microphone and asked him to raise the slogan over the speaker. The worker then shouted “Channi Zindabad,” “Congress Party Zindabad” and “Rahul Gandhi Zindabad.”
Notably, the worker did not raise slogans in support of either Warring or Baghel despite being on the stage with the senior leaders.
The incident has drawn attention within Punjab’s political circles and sparked discussion over the differing loyalties and internal dynamics within the state Congress.
