Chandigarh extends deadline for Govt employees to opt for solar rooftop solar

Chandigarh, August 10, 2026: The Chandigarh Administration has extended the deadline for employees residing in government accommodation to submit their option or undertaking forms regarding the use of rooftop solar power systems.
Haryana Government employees residing in government houses allotted by the Chandigarh Administration can now submit their forms by August 31, 2026.
The House Allotment Committee has clarified that if an employee's undertaking is not received by the revised deadline, it will be presumed that the employee does not consent to use the rooftop solar energy facility.
The initiative is being implemented as part of the Central Government's efforts to achieve 100 per cent installation of rooftop solar systems in government residential buildings.
The Administration said the process was initiated following representations from government employees concerning solar user charges. Under the undertaking, employees have to select one of the prescribed options.
Employees may consent to use electricity generated by the rooftop solar plant and pay the applicable user charges. Alternatively, they may opt not to use the facility or indicate that the option is not applicable to them.
Employees opting to use solar-generated electricity will be required to pay the prescribed user charges and provide authorised personnel access to their premises for inspection and maintenance of the solar installation.
For employees who choose not to use the facility, the electricity generated by the rooftop solar system will be supplied to the electricity distribution licensee through the gross metering system, in accordance with prevailing rules.
The Administration has urged eligible employees to submit their undertakings by the revised deadline to ensure that their preference is duly recorded.
