New Delhi, August 10, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Monday declined to comment on the reported meeting between SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that those who attended the meeting should clarify what transpired.
Asked about the meeting and the discussions that took place, Harsimrat said she had not been part of it and therefore would not comment on its details.
“I have not had any meeting. Those who had the meeting are the ones who can answer for it,” she said.
Her remarks came amid speculation over the nature and outcome of the interaction between Sukhbir Badal and PM Modi, particularly regarding the political equations between the SAD and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
The SAD and BJP were long-standing allies in Punjab and had contested several elections together before their alliance ended in 2020 following differences over the Centre’s farm laws. The two parties subsequently fought the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections separately and also contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections independently.
The reported meeting between Sukhbir Badal and Prime Minister Modi has since drawn attention in Punjab’s political circles, with questions being raised over whether the interaction could have any bearing on the future political relationship between the two parties.
