Radiofrequency Ablation treatment successfully introduced first time in Ferozepur Railway Hospital
Ferozepur, August 27, 2026: The Divisional Railway Hospital, Firozpur has achieved another significant milestone by introducing the facility of Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) for the first time to help control pain caused by knee osteoarthritis. This advanced medical facility has been introduced under the leadership of Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Ranjana Sehgal.
Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Amit Shersia stated that this technique is particularly beneficial for patients whose knees develop osteoarthritis at a relatively young age of 40–50 years, for whom knee replacement may not be advisable at such an early age, as well as for patients who do not wish to undergo knee replacement surgery. It is also a pain-management option for patients who require knee replacement but are temporarily unable to undergo surgery due to medical reasons.
In Radiofrequency Ablation, controlled radiofrequency energy is used to deactivate the nerves responsible for transmitting pain. This helps provide pain relief and improves the patient’s mobility. The procedure does not require general anaesthesia or an incision, involves a short hospital stay, and is generally performed as a day-care procedure, allowing the patient to be discharged on the same day and recover quickly.
