RPF keeps strict vigilance on unnecessary chain pulling; 155 cases registered in August
Ferozepur, September 8, 2026: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has intensified its vigilance against unnecessary alarm chain pulling in trains, with 155 cases registered under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989, during August. A total of 117 persons were arrested and a fine of Rs. 24,900 was recovered in these cases.
Indian Railways is the lifeline of the country, providing safe and timely transportation to millions of passengers every day. Keeping passenger safety and security in view, alarm chains are provided in every train coach for use only during genuine emergency situations.
Ferozepur Rail Division has been conducting continuous awareness campaigns at railway stations, onboard trains and through the public announcement system to educate passengers about the proper use of alarm chains and the consequences of their misuse.
Unnecessary chain pulling adversely affects train operations, disrupts punctuality and causes inconvenience to thousands of passengers. It also results in financial losses to the Railways.
Under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989, pulling an alarm chain without a reasonable and sufficient cause is a punishable offence, for which the offender may face a fine, imprisonment, or both.
Railway has appealed to all railway passengers to use the alarm chain only in genuine emergency situations. Unnecessary chain pulling is not only a violation of railway rules but also affects the journey of thousands of passengers and disrupts the smooth operation of train services.
It also reiterated its commitment to ensuring passenger safety and security and maintaining smooth and uninterrupted train operations.
