Roll Observer Ghanshyam Thori today reviewed the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bathinda district during a meeting with representatives of various political parties.
During the meeting, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman apprised the Roll Observer of the progress made in mapping voters with the 2003 electoral rolls.
He informed that around 48,900 voters in Bathinda district initially remained unmapped with the 2003 electoral rolls. To facilitate the mapping process and ensure that no eligible voter was left out, special SIR camps were organised by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), with Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of political parties extending cooperation in the exercise.
As a result of the concerted efforts of the administration, BLOs and political parties, the number of voters whose mapping with the 2003 rolls remains pending has now been brought down to around 2,280.
Appreciating the progress achieved by Bathinda district, Roll Observer Ghanshyam Thori expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the SIR exercise is being carried out. He congratulated the district administration as well as representatives of political parties for their coordinated efforts and active participation in the process.
The Roll Observer emphasised that the ongoing stage of receiving claims and objections regarding the electoral rolls is equally important. He directed the officials concerned to discharge their responsibilities with utmost dedication and ensure that every eligible voter gets proper assistance and no voter faces unnecessary difficulty during the revision process.
He stressed the need for continued coordination between the administration and political parties so that claims and objections are dealt with efficiently, transparently and within the prescribed procedure.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for representatives of political parties to raise field-level issues and discuss matters concerning the ongoing revision exercise with the district administration.
Those present on the occasion included representatives of various political parties, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Kanchan, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Lovejit Kalsi, SDM Maur Gurjinder Singh, SDM Bathinda. Amandeep Singh Mavi, SDM Rampura Phul. Balkaran Singh Mahal, Tehsildar Elections Harjinder Kaur, Chairman Nagar Sudhar Trust Jatinder Singh Bhalla, Chairman Forest Department Rakesh Puri, besides officers of various departments and their representatives.

The substantial reduction in unmapped voters from approximately 48,900 to 2,280 marks significant progress in the district's SIR exercise and reflects the coordinated efforts of the election machinery, BLOs and political parties.
