Food Safety Dept finds improvement at Baj Wala Chowk; 140 kg unsafe 'cheese' destroyed
Ferozepur, September 24, 2026: The Food Safety Department has found a significant improvement in cleanliness and food safety standards at most eateries in the Baj Wala Chowk area during a follow-up inspection.
The inspection was conducted on September 23, a week after officials had checked dhabas in the area and directed their operators to improve cleanliness, hygiene and compliance with food safety norms.
During the latest inspection, most dhabas were found maintaining better cleanliness standards. Food items were properly covered, and greater attention was being paid to hygiene in food preparation areas. The operators had also taken steps to rectify the deficiencies pointed out during the earlier inspection.
Rusty or damaged metal articles had been painted or repaired, while kitchen staff were found wearing clean aprons, caps and gloves.
Food Safety Officer Abhinav Khosla appreciated the cooperation of the dhaba operators and their compliance with the directions issued during the previous inspection. He said food safety was a shared responsibility of food business operators, the authorities and the public.
Meanwhile, the department has received the Food Analyst’s report on a paneer sample collected during an earlier inspection. The sample has been declared unsafe.
According to the department, around 140 kg of paneer, which had been sealed and kept in custody after the sample was collected, will be destroyed or disposed of as per the prescribed procedure.
The department said the action was being taken in accordance with food safety regulations and that the media was being informed to ensure transparency and public awareness.
The Food Safety Department appealed to consumers to purchase and use only safe and standard-quality food products and to inform the department immediately about any suspected or substandard food item.
The department also stated that legal action would be taken wherever violations of food safety norms were detected, while food business operators maintaining proper standards would continue to be encouraged.
