Chandigarh, October 4, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann congratulated newly appointed Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh, saying he has long admired the former Indian hockey captain and continues to address him as “Captain Sahib” in the Punjab Assembly.
Mann said that although Pargat Singh now heads a different political party, he was happy about his appointment and extended his congratulations. The Chief Minister said his admiration for Pargat Singh was rooted in his love for hockey and the latter’s contribution to the sport.
However, taking a lighter political dig, Mann said he hoped Pargat Singh’s “players” would also support him, adding that in hockey, “if there is no pass, there will be no goal.”
Pargat Singh, MLA from Jalandhar Cantt and former Indian hockey captain, was appointed Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president on October 2, replacing Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
