22,855 passengers penalised over ₹ 2 Cr for ticketless, irregular travel in September
Ferozepur, October 5, 2026: The Firozpur Rail Division of Northern Railway recovered more than ₹ 2 crore in penalties from 22,855 passengers found travelling without valid tickets or with irregular tickets during an intensive ticket-checking drive conducted throughout September.
The ticket-checking staff of the Division continued checking trains to curb unauthorised and ticketless travel and ensure a hassle-free journey for bona fide passengers. The drive was aimed at preventing unauthorised travel and safeguarding the interests of passengers travelling with valid tickets.
Besides train ticket checking, regular checks were also conducted at major railway stations across the Division to discourage littering and promote cleanliness on railway premises. During September, 202 passengers were penalised under the Anti-Littering Act, with fines amounting to more than ₹81,000 recovered from them.
Divisional Railway Manager Sanjeev Kumar said that ticket-checking drives would continue across Firozpur Division. He said the primary objective of such drives was to provide safe and comfortable travel facilities to bona fide passengers.
Basant Kumar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, added that regular ticket checking helps ensure that passengers travelling without tickets or through unauthorised means do not inconvenience those travelling with valid tickets.
