Strasbourg (France), October 7, 2026: A satirical statue depicting US President Donald Trump has gone on display inside the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, drawing attention for its provocative portrayal of the US leader.
Titled “The Orange Plague” and standing around 8.5 feet (2.5 metres) tall, the artwork shows a naked, oversized figure resembling Trump sitting on the shoulders of a shorter man while holding a long golden club.
The sculpture was created by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt, who used 23-karat gold leaf to coat the work. It is also referred to as the “King of Injustice.”
A description displayed alongside the statue reads: “I am sitting on the back of a man. He is sinking under my burden.” It then refers to the figure as the “King of Injustice”.
According to the artist, the work is intended as a satirical protest against what he describes as the US approach to climate change and its impact on the green transition and the international rules-based order.
The statue has been installed at a passage connecting two European Parliament buildings in Strasbourg and is scheduled to remain there until Thursday.
The exhibition was organised with the support of European Parliament member Per Clausen, who defended the decision to display the artwork. Speaking to German broadcaster DW, Clausen said criticism or potential displeasure from Trump should not prevent the sculpture from being exhibited.
Trump has not publicly commented on the artwork.
The statue has previously been displayed in other European cities and was also shown at the COP30 United Nations climate conference in Belém, Brazil. It is expected to travel to Turkey for the COP31 climate conference in November.
Galschiøt is known for politically themed public sculptures. Among his works is the “Pillar of Shame”, created in 2000 to commemorate the Eldorado massacre in Brazil, in which 19 landless people were killed by military police.
