CBI arrests Chandigarh MC sanitary inspector while accepting Rs 5 lakh bribe

Chandigarh, October 8, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Sanitary Inspector of the Municipal Corporation (MC), Chandigarh, for allegedly accepting a ₹5 lakh bribe from a contractor associated with the civic body.
The CBI registered a case against the accused on October 7 following allegations that he had demanded ₹14 lakh as illegal gratification for processing and clearing pending and future bills of the complainant’s firm.
According to the CBI, the accused allegedly threatened to withhold the bills and have the firm’s tender cancelled if the bribe was not paid.
The agency laid a trap on October 7 and caught the Sanitary Inspector red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting ₹5 lakh as part payment of the ₹14 lakh bribe from the contractor.
Following the arrest, the CBI conducted searches at the accused’s residential and office premises. The searches led to the recovery of allegedly incriminating documents, along with documents related to immovable property.
The arrested accused is scheduled to be produced before the competent court in Chandigarh on October 8. Further investigation in the case is underway.
