V-C Kimti Bhagat reviews Gaushala welfare, cattle care in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, October 8, 2026: Punjab Gau Sewa Commission Vice Chairman Kimti Bhagat on Thursday held a meeting with district administrative officials and presidents and representatives of gaushalas in Ferozepur to review the arrangements and initiatives being undertaken for the welfare of gaushalas and cattle. ADC(Dev) Krishna Pal Rajput was also present at the meeting.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the problems being faced by gaushalas, care of cattle and various welfare measures being implemented by the Punjab Government.
Kimti Bhagat said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government was making continuous efforts to strengthen gaushalas and ensure better care of stray, abandoned and injured cattle. He said the government had decided to waive electricity bills of around 518 government and private gaushalas across the state.
He said a free cow lifter facility had also been provided for shifting injured and sick cattle to gaushalas and ensuring timely treatment. The Punjab Government had spent around Rs 3.06 crore on the facility, he added.
The meeting also discussed the government's decision to provide Rs 61 per cattle per day for their care in gaushalas. Necessary action for implementing the decision is currently underway.
Bhagat said strict legal provisions had been put in place in Punjab to prevent cow slaughter, cattle smuggling and other illegal activities related to cow meat. Cow Protection Cells had also been established in all districts for effective action in such cases.
He further said that Deputy Directors of the Animal Husbandry Department in all districts had been designated as Cattle Welfare Officers. Arrangements had also been made to provide necessary veterinary services to cattle housed in gaushalas through government veterinary doctors.
Presidents and representatives of various gaushalas apprised the Vice Chairman of their problems and suggestions during the meeting. Bhagat assured them that the Punjab Government and Punjab Gau Sewa Commission would extend all possible support for resolving their genuine issues.
He said improving gaushalas and ensuring proper care of cattle was a shared responsibility, adding that efforts would continue to provide necessary financial, infrastructure and medical support to gaushalas.
Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Kanwar Anoop Kaler, EO MC Narinder Kumar, Veterinary Officers Dr Gurleen Singh, Dr Mandeep Kaur, Dr Isha, Dr Gurleen Kaur, Dr Rupinderjit Kaur and Dr Arshpreet Kaur, besides officials and employees of municipal councils and other departments and representatives of various gaushalas, were present at the meeting.
