New Chandigarh becomes Punjab’s third Test Venue as India-Afghanistan match marks historic milestone

New Chandigarh, June 6, 2026: Punjab cricket achieved a significant milestone on Saturday as the New Chandigarh Cricket Stadium officially entered the ranks of India's Test cricket venues with the commencement of the inaugural Test match between India and Afghanistan.
The historic occasion was marked by Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Honorary Secretary Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who rang the traditional bell to signal the start of the match and formally commissioned the stadium as a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Test venue.

With this recognition, New Chandigarh has become the third Test cricket venue in Punjab and the 31st Test venue in India, marking a major achievement for cricket infrastructure in the state.
The development is being viewed as a landmark moment for Punjab cricket, reflecting the state's growing prominence on India's cricketing map and opening the door for more international fixtures in the future.
Punjab Cricket Association officials described the occasion as a historic day for the sport in the state, with the stadium's elevation to Test status adding another chapter to Punjab's cricketing legacy.
