Food Safety Dept conducts surprise checks on street food vendors, restaurants in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, September 8, 2026: Acting on complaints received from the public regarding unhygienic conditions and unsafe food practices, the Food Safety Department, Ferozepur, conducted late evening surprise inspections at various street food outlets and restaurants in the city.
The inspection was led by Food Safety Officer Abhinav Kumar. Complaints had reportedly been received about food being prepared and served in unhygienic conditions, with instances of insects being noticed around food items at some places.d outlet was also inspected and found to have deficiencies related to hygiene, following which a challan was issued under the applicable rules.
Food Safety Officer Abhinav Kumar appealed to the public to follow the message, “Eat clean, Stay healthy,” and urged people to remain cautious while consuming food outside their homes. He said that unhygienic or improperly prepared food could pose serious health risks.
He advised consumers to check the cleanliness of food establishments, the availability of food safety licences and the conditions in which food is prepared before purchasing or consuming food. People should prefer reliable and hygienic food business operators and pay special attention to food safety.
He also made it clear that no compromise would be made with public health and that strict action against food business operators violating food safety regulations would continue in the future.
Inspection Reveals Food Safety Violations; Action Taken Against Defaulters
The inspection of the storage area further revealed mould-affected ginger and chillies along with other spoiled raw materials. Noodles and other raw food material were found being stored at around 35 degrees Celsius instead of the required temperature, creating a potential risk of harmful microbial growth. A large quantity of unsafe raw material was consequently destroyed at the spot.
The department also inspected Dhingra Restaurant following complaints received against the establishment. During the inspection, some prepared food items were found to have been stored for several days. The department took the matter seriously and removed the suspected food items from use.

During the inspection of street food vendors near Udham Singh Chowk, several outlets were found preparing food in highly unhygienic surroundings. Officials also found that cooking oil was being reused repeatedly, while considerable amounts of sediment and burnt residues had accumulated in some containers.
A street food van was also inspected, where certain food items did not have the required information and proper labelling. The cooking oil being used was also found to be in an unsafe condition. The department issued a challan against the food business operator and directed him to strictly maintain hygiene and comply with food safety regulations.
Action was also taken against a chicken and biryani vendor who was found operating without the mandatory food safety licence. The vendor was challaned under the applicable rules and directed to ensure proper hygiene, safe food preparation and compliance with food safety laws.
During the inspection of another food establishment, a paint brush was found being used for applying butter/oil, which was considered unsuitable for food handling. Action was taken as per the prescribed regulations.
Green-coloured chutneys were also found stored in plastic bags and other unsuitable packaging materials inside a refrigerator. The department officials stated that storing food items in inappropriate plastic or packaging material, particularly under unsuitable conditions, can pose health risks.
