Chandigarh, November 6, 2025: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission on Thursday deferred the personal appearance of the Tarn Taran Deputy Commissioner–cum–District Election Officer, granting time until November 17 in view of by-election duties scheduled for November 11. The commission did not offer any comment on a letter from the state Chief Electoral Officer requesting withdrawal of the summons to the district election officials.
In a press release, commission chairperson Jasvir Singh Garhi said the District Election Officer had sought exemption from appearing on November 6 owing to polling-related responsibilities, which the panel accepted. The chairperson added that the DEO had formally informed the commission that a notice seeking clarification had been issued to Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and that the matter was under police verification.
Advocate Arshpreet Singh Khadial appeared before the commission on behalf of Amarinder Singh Raja Warring in the matter related to remarks about former Union home minister Buta Singh. The counsel sought exemption from Warring’s personal appearance until the completion of the by-election; the vakalatnama could not be submitted during Thursday’s proceedings.
Citing media reports of an FIR registered by Kapurthala Police, the commission has asked the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala, to submit an action-taken report by November 10, 2025. The panel also recorded a separate request from the District Election Officer, Tarn Taran, for exemption from personal appearance during the election period.
The Chief Electoral Officer had earlier written to the commission objecting to the summons issued to the Tarn Taran district election officials during the poll schedule, but the panel has not publicly responded to that communication.
