Kangana Ranaut calls for property seizure of drug traffickers in Kullu, questions open sale of drugs

Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), September 7, 2026: Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut has called for stringent action against drug traffickers in Himachal Pradesh, including the seizure of properties and assets allegedly acquired through the illegal trade.
Speaking at a district-level direction meeting in Kullu, Ranaut questioned the police and administration over the reported open sale of drugs and said the availability of narcotics in public spaces reflects a serious failure of enforcement.
Ranaut said the drug trade should not be viewed merely as a law-and-order issue but as a serious threat to the future of the state’s youth. She stressed that action should extend beyond the arrest of small-time offenders and focus on identifying the wider networks involved in trafficking and financing the illegal trade.
She also called for financial action against those who have allegedly accumulated wealth through drug trafficking. According to Ranaut, confiscating illegally acquired assets could help weaken the financial foundations of the drug trade and act as a deterrent to those involved in promoting it.
Raising concern over the reported open availability of drugs, Ranaut said the police and administration must ensure that anti-drug measures result in visible and concrete action rather than being limited to paperwork or routine arrests.
The Mandi MP also emphasised the need to protect young people from the growing threat of substance abuse. Kullu and other tourist areas of Himachal Pradesh have faced challenges related to drug trafficking and supply networks, with the movement of tourists and outsiders adding to the policing challenge.
Ranaut urged the administration to adopt a tougher and more comprehensive approach, targeting not only those directly involved in selling drugs but also the financial networks supporting the illegal trade.
The focus will now be on the steps taken by the Kullu administration and police following the directions, particularly whether investigations into the financial assets of alleged drug traffickers are initiated and concrete enforcement measures are undertaken.
