Canada: Hundreds of students hold protest as they face deportation risk as Post Graduate Work Permits rejected

Edmonton/Surrey (Alberta), July 31, 2026: Hundreds of International students mostly from India are facing deportation risk as their Post Graduate Work Permits (PGWP) have been rejected by the Government. These students are protesting in Edmonton and Surrey cities urging governments to issue them PGWPs.
These students are protesting against deportations since last few days.

Meanwhile Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has made it clear that Students whose visa have expired will have to return to their homes. She said that International students whose visas expire without permanent residency should leave Canada. She also calls for Alberta to have greater control over selecting skilled immigrants.
