Don’t bring gifts on retirement; help blind children.
Ferozepur teacher Manveen turns her farewell ceremony into a lifeline for blind children
Ferozepur's Manveen Science Teacher forgoes retirement gifts to champion cause of Visually Impaired
Ferozepur, November 24, 2025: In a heart-touching and pioneering initiative, Madam Manveen, who has been serving as a science teacher at Government Senior Secondary School, Attari Village, for three decades, has turned her retirement ceremony into an opportunity to raise funds for blind children.
Instead of accepting traditional gifts and honours, Manveen ji has appealed to all the guests to donate directly to “Home for the Blind”. This organisation was established in 1954 by the philanthropist Dr Sadhu Chand Vinayak. Today, this organisation is providing free accommodation, food and education to 28 blind children. Surprisingly, in the last three years alone, more than 30 alumni of this institute have secured jobs in various government departments, including banks.
The invitation letter has this message printed in big letters along with the bank account number, IFSC code and QR code of the institute.
“Bringing light to someone’s life is the greatest gift,” said Manveen Ji. “If people help even one blind child in my name, then the last chapter of my life will be meaningful. Changing someone’s life is such a gift that lasts forever.”
He admitted that direct donation through QR code will not only bring transparency but will also inspire the younger generation to serve society digitally.
The idea is inspired by his family tradition, where donations are given to blind homes on the Shraddha of the elderly. Her husband, Tajinder Pal Singh, who retired as a senior manager from Punjab Gramin Bank last month, had also requested not to bring gifts for his retirement ceremony, but some people still brought gifts. Learning from that experience, Manveen ji printed the message directly on the invitation card.
This is the first time in the Ferozepur region that a retiring teacher has turned a personal occasion of happiness into a social contribution. Colleagues, the education department and the administrators of Blind Home, Ashwini Sharma and Ramesh Sethi, have greatly appreciated it.
The retirement ceremony will be held on November 30, 2025. In the presence of hundreds of guests, it is hoped that this campaign will raise enough financial support for visually impaired children and set a new standard for meaningful celebrations across Punjab.
Manveen’s simple yet powerful message is resonating everywhere – the greatest honour is not what we receive, but what we make others receive.
