Chandigarh, June 27:
In an era where many unnatural deaths are quickly attributed to accidents, the investigation into the death of Pune resident Ketan Aggarwal has emerged as a striking example of how meticulous policing can alter the course of justice. At the centre of the investigation is Pune (rural) Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill, whose decision to probe beyond the initial theory of an accidental death led investigators to uncover what police describe as a meticulously planned murder.
Ketan Aggarwal's death was initially believed to be the result of an accident near Lohagad Fort. However, after interacting with the bereaved family and carefully listening to their concerns, SP Gill reportedly instructed the investigating team to examine every possible angle, including the possibility of homicide, instead of treating the matter as a routine accidental death. That crucial decision changed the investigation.
According to the Pune Rural Police, sustained forensic examination, technical evidence, and detailed investigation ultimately revealed that the death was allegedly a premeditated murder. Police have accused Aggarwal's fiancée, Siya Goel, and her alleged boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, of conspiring to kill him. The allegations are part of the ongoing criminal investigation and remain subject to judicial proceedings.
Police officials believe that had the case been closed as an accidental death, the alleged conspiracy might never have come to light. The investigation has since drawn nationwide attention and has been widely cited as an example of why every suspicious death deserves a thorough and impartial inquiry.

Sandeep Singh Gill belongs to Ludhiana district in Punjab and spent much of his childhood in Khanna. A member of the 2016 batch of the Indian Police Service (Maharashtra cadre), Gill currently serves as Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural.
His journey to the IPS is equally inspiring. Gill earned a Master's degree in English Literature from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and worked as an Assistant Professor at AGGS College in Chandigarh while simultaneously preparing for the Civil Services Examination.
Persistence defined his path. After multiple attempts, he secured All India Rank 143 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination, 2015, choosing English Literature as his optional subject. The achievement reflected years of determination, balancing academics with an unwavering commitment to public service.

The Lohagad investigation underscores the importance of leadership that values facts over assumptions. By directing investigators to look beyond the apparent circumstances and carefully examine the family's concerns, SP Gill demonstrated the significance of objective, evidence-based policing.
While the courts will ultimately determine the guilt or innocence of the accused, the investigation serves as a reminder that justice often begins with an officer willing to ask difficult questions and pursue every lead without prejudice.
For many observers, the case stands as an example to the role that professional investigation, scientific evidence, and sensitivity towards victims' families can play in ensuring that the truth is not buried beneath first impressions.
