Power demand in Punjab crosses 17000 MW, power cuts create uproar across the state

Chandigarh, June 30, 2026: As the paddy season approaches its peak in Punjab, the power demand crossed the 17000 MW mark yesterday. This is the highest demand so far in the current season. At around 4:45 pm yesterday, the demand was recorded at 17147 MW, while the maximum demand was recorded on July 5 last year at 17300 MW. Power experts are of the opinion that this time the power demand in Punjab will cross the 18000 MW mark.
Punjab overdrawn power from the central pool to meet the demand of 17147 MW. 10594 MW of electricity was scheduled from the central pool while Punjab was drawing 11359 MW of electricity and in this way the demand was met by overdrawing 765 MW of electricity.
Meanwhile farmers and common people are protesting against Power Corporation to protest against unscheduled power cuts.
